Echoes in Time Theatre - Preaching, Music and Speechifying! The Lakeside Chautauqua Sat., June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2018 • Performances at 1 & 3 p.m. Ohio History Center, Columbus The Chautauqua, a popular late 19th-century entertainment, was a natural fit for scenic Lakeside, Ohio. In August of 1873, preachers from the area gathered together to create an area where people could come together and enjoy music, preaching and speechifying. Listen as one reveler, played by Sarah Jaquays, talks about her Chautauqua memories. This performance lasts about 30–45 minutes. Over the winter, Lakeside Association Head of Religious Life, Rev. Dr. Ned DeWire and LHS Manager Dakota Harkins compiled an application to present to the East Ohio UMC Commission on Archives and History to designate Lakeside Chautauqua as a UMC Historic Site. To find out more about the Historic Sites in Ohio, visit the UMC General Commission on Archives and History site HERE. If the motion to apply is passed, the East Ohio Conference will take a vote on the designation this summer during the Annual Conference at Lakeside. Look for more updates soon!
